VISITING THE OBSERVATORY

Events for the General Public

We hold regular open evenings for non-members that include a tour of the Observatory, a short
talk on astronomy, and the chance to view celestial objects of interest through the telescope (if clear).

These events are designed for anyone who would like an introduction to astronomy, and require no
prior knowledge. They book up quickly, so keep an eye on this website and our public Facebook page
(link at top of this screen) for announcements of forthcoming dates in 2024.

While waiting for an open evening, you are also welcome to attend as a guest at our monthly meetings,
which start at 8:00 pm on the first Thursday of each month and are held in the Observatory Clubroom.

Note: As of 2024, we regret that we are no longer able to offer dedicated adult group visits.

Tours for Youth Organisations

We host dedicated tours of the Observatory for youth organisations.

To request a tour, email enquiries@iomastronomy.org with the number of attendees and a range
of dates that would suit you. Your request will be reviewed at the next Committee meeting.
We will then offer some dates when we can accommodate you.

Prior to the tour, we require that someone from your organisation visits the premises
to meet one of our representatives, and complete a risk assessment
that will help ensure the tour goes safely and smoothly.
